Changes to Y11 Mock Examinations - January 2019
ue to the closure of the academy on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 January 2019, due to an electrical fault, the Y11 Mock Examinations for those days have not gone ahead. The Mocks start on Wednesday 16 January, starting with those subjects scheduled for Wednesday, ie English Language on Wednesday morning, and Spanish on Wednesday afternoon. HOWEVER the English Language paper with be Component 1 (C1) not Component 2 (C2) to mirror the order of the exams in the actual GCSEs. Further information about rescheduling the Monday/Tuesday missed sessions will be passed on in due course.
Students in Year 11 are carrying out their GCSE Mocks (Praising Stars 3) assessments in examination conditions in the Gym over the next two weeks beginning Monday 14 January. This will also help ensure they are familiar with GCSE examination conduct, and the demands of sitting a number of exams in succession. Students should have been revising from before Christmas, when they were issued the timetable, and indeed since September following the Year 11 Revision Timetable, aiming to revise one hour per night right through until the GCSEs in May/June 2019!
There is more information on the Examinations page of our website including the timetable for the January Y11 Mocks here: www.redcar.outwood.com/exams
We have also published on our Praising Stars website page here: www.redcar.outwood.com/praising-stars a calendar of all the Praising Stars assessments windows this academic year, so parents can support their children with revising at home, in order to secure the best outcomes in our six weekly assessments.
For obvious reasons, it is not appropriate to take children out of school for family holidays, as there is no time of year when lessons are not important, or assessment cycles to support learning are not happening. Our attendance continues to be the highest ever in the history of the school, and we thanks families for their support in this regard.
