Reading Schemes

The Library runs and promotes various reading schemes within school and provides support where needed to students and their parents or carers as detailed below.

Accelerated Reader Scheme

The Accelerated Reader (AR) scheme encourages Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 option English students to enjoy reading a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books that are available in the academy library, thereby supporting literacy in all areas of the curriculum.
Library staff and teachers have worked hard in promoting reading and understanding using books and online quizzes to ensure progression in the AR programme.
Students can take quizzes from home once they have finished reading a book by accessing Accelerated Reader from our school gateway or directly through our hosted site:
If you would like any more information regarding this please ring the Academy and ask for Mrs Hart, who will be pleased to answer any queries you may have.
We have also invested in LEXIA software. For further details please contact Mrs Karen Hill, Bridge Manager.

Better Reading Partnership (BRP)

This scheme is run in a small peer group with a trained member of staff. The aim of the scheme is to boost student’s comprehension and reading ages by giving them a wide range of items to read.
